“LOS CRÍMENES DE ALICIA”

Guillermo Martínez, nació en 1962, en Bahía Blanca, en la provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina; es licenciado en matemáticas, cuenta con un doctorado en lógica y estudios postdoctorales en Oxford, Inglaterra; es autor de una buena cantidad de libros en diversos géneros: cuento, como Infierno grande de 1989, su primera publicación; en novela, Crímenes imperceptibles de 2003, con la que obtuvo varios premios y fue llevada al cine con el nombre de Crímenes de Oxford; y ensayo, Borges y la matemática de 2003, por solo mencionar algunos.
En 2019, Guillermo Martínez, publica la novela Los crímenes de Alicia, historia que transcurre en Oxford, a partir de una misteriosa anotación en un pedazo de papel, encontrado por Kristen Hill, joven becaria enviada a una pequeño museo en Guildford, por la Hermandad Lewis Carroll, con el propósito de reunir material para la publicación de los diarios personales del autor de Alicia en el país de las maravillas; papel que, según la propia Kristen, siempre estuvo a la vista de todos, pero nunca antes nadie reparó en él.
Al dimensionar el valor de su hallazgo, la becaria decide ocultárselo a su tutor, Thornton Reeves, porque piensa que este hará cualquier cosa por apropiarse del descubrimiento y dejarla sin el crédito que ella piensa que merece; así, se pone en contacto con Arthur Seldom, también miembro de la Hermandad, y el único en quien confía la joven.
Entre ambos acuerdan que es pertinente hacer del conocimiento de los miembros de la Hermandad el descubrimiento llevado a cabo por Kristen y, por lo tanto, Seldom convocará a una reunión extraordinaria para comunicar “… un hallazgo inesperado en la casa de Guildford.”
Reunidos todos los miembros de la Hermandad, nadie se quiere perder una noticia que puede provocar cambios importantes en lo escrito hasta entonces sobre Carroll, y en medio de la inquietud que les provoca la demora de la becaria, inesperadamente reciben una llamada: les avisan que la joven ha sufrido un grave accidente, fue atropellada y se encuentra hospitalizada.
A partir de este hecho, se comienzan a suceder una serie de peligrosos acontecimientos en los se ven involucrados, de una u otra manera, quienes participan en la historia de un, aparentemente inocente pedazo de papel; a grado tal que en un periodo muy breve se suceden dos asesinatos, los cuales se suman, ahora se sabe, al intento de asesinato de Kristen. Al indagar, encuentran que estos hechos tienen un común denominador: las víctimas recibieron antes de ser agredidas, cada quien una fotografía diferente atribuida a Lewis Carroll, de la serie de niñas semidesnudas, en un sobre en blanco, sin anotación alguna.
Muy pronto, las cosas se complican aún más; prácticamente todos los miembros de la Hermandad reciben su propio sobre con su correspondiente fotografía, incluso al Príncipe, Presidente honorario, también le llega un sobre; todo lo cual enciende las alarmas por las graves implicaciones que se pueden generar en caso de que todo esto se haga del conocimiento público.
Como puede verse, son varias las preguntas que podemos hacernos acerca de esta historia: ¿qué dice el texto del famoso papel de Guildford?, ¿cuáles pueden ser las implicaciones de darlo a conocer?, ¿quién está detrás de los asesinatos?; estas y otras interrogantes quedan aún por resolver en esta apasionante historia, en esta fascinante novela policiaca que te atrapa desde sus primeras páginas.
